Jim Hanson

The legacy of Jim “Yella' Hair” Hanson began in 1978 when he started working at the ARCO Refinery (now BP) at the ripe young age of 23.  Jim was hired as a Cleaner I, or as he recalls “a grunt for the painters”.  Jim became a Journeyman Painter in 1982 and at that time was one of the few who actually went through the complete apprenticeship program.  He worked his way up to a Foreman in 1984 and became a Superintendent in 1990.  Jim received the name, “Yella' Hair” early in his career by Tom Dunkin Sr..  We still aren’t sure if it was because he had very long blonde hair or because he was from Custer.

Jim has worked at many locations over the years including Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon and Eastern Washington but the majority of his career has been spent as an essential member of our BP Cherry Point crew.  He knows the Cherry Point facility like the back of his hand and can recall what paint system was used where, when it was painted and who actually painted it.  Throughout Jim’s career he has acquired a vast knowledge of all aspects of our trade and has used this knowledge in his successful overseeing and training of hundreds of employees.  Through this training Jim has had a hand in passing down numerous experiences as well as training 4 of our current Superintendents and 6 of our current Foremen.  This valuable knowledge Jim passes along helps strengthened our ability to successfully complete hundreds of jobs at all of our facilities.

After 20 consecutive years of service at D&B each employee receives a Rolex watch and every 5 years of service thereafter they are given an addition to their watch.  In 1998 Jim received his Rolex and in 2003 Jim received his first addition to his watch, a diamond studded face commemorating 25 years of exceptional service and loyalty to the Dunkin & Bush family.  This addition makes Jim’s watch the envy of all active employees.  Thank you and great job Jim.
